Crai - in Welsh means 'fresh, raw waters'.  Given the number of springs and streams, which led to the construction of the Crai Reservoir, this seems to be quite appropriate.

Crai is within the Brecon Beacons National Park and is a recognised Dark Skies area making it perfect for both day and night activities. The lack of intrusive street lighting makes Crai one of the best places in the country to view the night sky.

The Community of Crai is made up of Crai village, Felin-Crai and the associated farms within the bounds of the Afon Crai (River Crai).

The Afon Crai emerges from Crai Reservoir and merges with River Usk.
